"If one member suffers, all suffer together..."
1 Corinthians 12:26

Proper clothing is one of the necessities of life

I was shivering and you gave me clothes...Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me - you did it to me.

Matthew 25: 36&40 MSG

From the beginning of Project JOY clothing has been one of the prime commodities we have taken to Harlan. When you have limited resources clothes are one of your possessions that often has to last longer than they should. Food is essential to life and you can get assistance for this through food stamps. at the end of the day there is often not enough money left over to buy new or second hand clothing.
Consider the following questions:

  • Would you be happy sending your child to school with no shoes on a cold winter's day with snow on the ground?
  • Would you let your child out to play without a sweater when the wind is blowing, there is ice on the trees and the temperature is below zero?
  • How would you like it if you were able to buy a cheap jacket for your daughter at Goodwill but had to wrap yourself in a blanket because you couldn't afford a jacket for yourself?
  • I only have enough money for either food or clothes. What should I do?
  • What should I do, my son doesn't want to go to school because the other kids laugh at his ragged clothes?
